There’s something about opening a box delivered to your door, right?
It’s an especially big deal when they’re the print copies of your novel. I’ve seen this moment captured by authors on social media so many times, so I knew I had to do it, too.
I ordered a few boxes of the paperback Goodbye Newsroom ahead of the launch party in Adelaide on 20 August. I’m so excited to hear that readers’ print copies are being delivered and to see them sharing some snaps on Twitter, too.
I had resisted heading into print territory, thinking that an e-book would suffice (and reach a global audience more easily). But I was wrong … friends and family told me they wanted the paperback version. And I must admit, it was wonderful to feel the cool cover in my hands, and rifle through those snapping pages.
So, I’ll be heaving these over to Dymocks Adelaide (well, my sons will) for the August 20 party. If you’re in Adelaide then, please consider this your invitation to join me there – I can’t wait to read an extract for the audience, and be interviewed by radio’s Jennie Lenman. It’s going to be fun!
